Skin to win
For the final heat of the final race of his sliding career, the 1998
/ 99 A.S.A. Cup # 3, DSS customer Scott McBride decided that he would
go out in style by truly going "skin to win". Never one to miss a
beat, Gary Williams removed his leopard-skin speed suit and beat Scott
to the punch. There is a rule in the F.I.B.T. regulations which prohibits
short sleeves and pants (and presumably, no sleeves or pants) on sliding
suits. That rule was ignored, but as can be seen here, the runner
temperature rules were adhered to. Interestingly, both sliders lost
one position in the second heat.
