Vacuum Man
This is me with "Vacuum Man", Toshinari Miyamoto of Japan. Miyamoto
was given his nickname due to his incredible capacity for food. I
went with him to supper once, and he had parts of two appetizers, followed
by an order of ravioli, followed by a complete pizza, followed by coffee
and dessert. I suppose he weighs 150 pounds or so. He now proudly
wears a "Vacuum Man" T-shirt given to him by Snorre Pedersen and Erik Skollerud
of the Norwegian team, and he has a big "V" on the bottom of his sled.
"Victory? No .... Vacuum!" We're laughing about the mother
/ daughter gymnastics team "performing" for us at the opening reception
for the 1999 World Championships in Altenberg.
That's another story altogether.
